La Hesperia

We’ve just left La Hesperia reserve, where we spent our project section of the trip! We made friends with all the lovely people there including other volunteers from Chicago, Canada and Italy. We helped with a variety of activities including making coffee and chocolate. We even built a hut from scratch, using bamboo and palm leaves! We had the opportunity to buy some of the chocolate as presents for people back home, but many people found themselves eating most of what they bought as it was so yummy!
The beds were super comfy and the food was amazing, especially during our last celebration meal with lots of traditional Ecuadorian food that we helped to prepare! The only challenge we faced was the number of bugs everywhere but with the help of deet and anthisan we survived!
Some of the best highlights were playing with the three dogs and using machetes to clear paths and cut bamboo. We learnt a lot about the biodiversity of the cloud forest and had an amazing experience that we will all remember for a long time to come!
